About Us
Like any good southern recipe, Sweetie Cakes is all about the story that goes into the making of my company. My story begins being born into the third generation in a line of incredible southern cooks in Giles County and today finds me living in, and affectionately being called, "The Belle Meade Pie Lady."
Whee, what a journey!
Along the way I've had family and friends that added a pinch of this or a pound of that to my life and to my recipes. Most people that try my pies and cakes can taste the love that went into each baked good that comes from my oven, and it usually takes them on a journey back in time. If not raised around here, the taste of a true southern delight sends them into some type of shock when realizing just what they missed growing up!
My whole family cooks. My brother lends me his commercial kitchen and my aunt, mother and grandmother join in the act when duty calls. No man stands a chance when this "girl power" kicks in!
The journey started when as a Regional Tourism Director in Tennessee I took my clients caramel cakes. When I lost my son Britton in 2005, baking turned into my therapy. That hobby/therapy changed when my husband became the President of Belle Meade Plantation. I left tourism and turned my passion into a full time business, doing what I love--baking.
No, I don't do wedding cakes shaped like celebrities or cupcake trees or anything your grandmother didn't do. My baking starts with a stick of butter and ends up melting your heart. Just ask my husband. He didn't stand a chance!
So Sweetie Cakes is really just an extension of who I am. The same southern basic ingredients in me come out in each of my baked creations. I deeply care if my pies and cakes bring you or your recipients' joy. After all, there's a part of three generations of strong southern women behind each bite!
